From the ATL LowDown's resident authority

Stewart
Vol. DI: We Have Liftoff
Now that the love
has been dispensed and the hate is back in season, here at the parent
company, E-StreetTeam, is proud to announce the launch of our latest
and greatest newsletter, the Houston LowDown. After seeing record
growth in our Los Angeles operation, it was time to expand. That
expansion will soon see even more rapid growth as we revamp our
website, MySpace pages, and advertising model over the next 3-6 months.
What does that mean? More ways to dispense event information, more
giveaways, more services for you..with that, welcome Valerie Williams
to the E-StreetTeam team as our Houston editor. If you know people who
should be on that Houston list - send an email to us with their emails
at president@e-streetteam.com
and we'll sign you up. Finally, back with us this week - Cocktails,
Kinetic, and Zuri (and soon, we'll have a live music/concert blogger,
so look out for that next week). Onward and upward....
Note: If this
newsletter was forwarded to you or if you view it online, you can add
your e-mail address to the ATL LowDown distribution list by clicking here
to receive our subscriber only ticket giveaways, updates, and
more.

Commentary |
| From the ATL LowDown's resident authority
on life and poetry, Cocktails
Love Eternal. Starts Internal. Scared to dance with the devil because
that’s a disco inferno. But my soul remains constantly lit like a
sterno. My facade is paper thin, and passion and desire always burns
through. You can’t worry about who has burned you or who has spurned
you. God has the steering wheel so just ride whatever way he turns you.
We are supposed
to learn Him first, so your potential spouse can learn you. You don’t
need anyone else to confirm you. Relationships are like babies, from
formula to firm food. But we swim in the ocean looking for worm food.
Take the bait, hook, line and sinker, and end up in adjourn mood.
Calling it quits. We put our faith in the wrong things and end up
having fits. Wondering why all of our relationships don’t fit. Because
we stand up for the small things, and on the big things sit. Looking at
material substance instead of character and spirit. I write this
commentary for the ones that don’t want to hear it. I write this for
myself because these are more than just lyrics. I write this for the
forlorn that see couples fail and cheer it. I write this for the ones
scared of love so they don’t come near it. Because when the heat is
turned up, you can run or pan sear it. Instead of running away, prepare
your runway so someone can have landing clearance. Even in window
shopping for a spouse, stop looking at the clearance. Get a direct
connect to God, that so he can clear out your love interference. I
write this for the despondent and indifferent. Valentine’s Day is just
a one day experience. What do you do every day to make a
difference…This is Cocktails mixing those intoxicating words from my
home cubicle of getting it together. Clean Your House.

issues, Kinetic
Low Grade Vertigo
I pride myself on being a relatively
healthy individual, eschewing many of life’s follies and vices to
maintain a healthy mind, body and spirit – even though I do enjoy my
Vodka Gimlets. So, when I had been feeling out of sorts since the
Super Bowl, I checked with my physician to see what was up. The
prognosis? Low grade vertigo.
For the uninitiated, vertigo is a neurological condition which
(usually) temporarily makes sufferers disoriented, as if the room is
spinning and turned upside down. For me, my issue has been to feel
uncharacteristically dizzy and out of sorts. Everything looks normal,
but I notice that my balance is slightly off and I have this virtual
cloud that kind of floods my vision and senses. I mention this because
I think it can be a metaphor to what is going on lately in the world.
As of the last week, Barack Obama has stormed to the lead in the
Democratic race for the White House. What is not lost on me is that I
have friends that are Republicans calling me saying that not only are
they voting for him in the fall, were he to win the nomination, they
are actually energized by what he may bring to the most powerful
position on the planet. Beyond that, the weather has gotten crazy,
with ATLiens experiencing spring-like weather months earlier, the
mortgage market has turned on its head and there are predictions that
Whites will be minorities in as many as 20 years in the US of A.
All of this hasn’t been lost on me as I try to clear my head. I have
delayed my review of Stic.Man’s album (all apologies, sir) as I have
been zoning out to Jay-Z’s last effort, American Gangster. Considering
that I respect Jay-Z’s ability, but typically reserve my money for
other fare, I have enjoyed that up is down and day is night on this
one. What I have heard of Stic.Man’s album has been fire, though, for
sure.
Well, I am on medication as we speak and trying to also avoid the flu
that has The Sun and everyone else knocked down. In due time, the fog
should clear and I should be back to the old hardcore Kinetic. I do,
however, hope that some things stay locked in vertigo, like the chance
of a Black Man as president, leading the country back into the country
of possibilities it always said it was.
Up is down. Black is...we’ll see
