 Cocktails Commentary

From E-StreetTeam's resident authority on life and poetry, Cocktails.

She got her own car, she got her own clothes.  I love her cause she got her own.  She’s grown.  Having a man is overblown.  There must be a disconnect on our relationship phones.  When did independent take the place of she’s alone?  The men are not present because they are out on the roam.  You better call Tyrone.  Or Tyrone better wake up and see that we have brought into the social idea of separate is the best way to run a home.  Single Parents is just that…single.  So we create speed dating and happy hours as a way to mingle while child care and STD’s is through the shingles.  I mean the roof.  I write this because you don’t need statistics or proof to see that school started today and how our independence is affecting the youth.  Budget cuts affecting the teachers, tithes affecting the preachers, and we still worried about new cell phone features.  The longer I live this life, the more I meet some interesting creatures.  Maybe it’s my birthday that is making me reflect on my earth days and how my good days outweigh my bad days.  Still I see success through a kaleidoscope colorful with splashes of gray.  Life is a parade and I’m trying to float without driving over a grenade.  Ghetto law is the law that we live by and I’m looking for my shorty Renee.  That was a Lost Boys reference for the ones that never heard the song play.  So like lyrics to a song, these words are the ones that I will hum along to today. “What the world needs now, is love sweet love.”  It is these words that I pray…This is Cocktails coming from my home cubicle of Get ‘er done.  Let’s work!

 Inspirational Vitamin

From E-StreetTeam's resident authority on inspirations, Nakia

Thought for the Week: How are you at waiting on God? How do you determine if God is giving you the green light to move forward? It is important to do three things before you make a decision on a matter. First, you should gather facts. Second, is the Holy Spirit guiding you in your decision? Third, has your decision been confirmed? God has placed others around us to be used as instruments in our lives to confirm decisions and keep us from the deceit of our own heart. When it comes to decision making, write your plans in pencil and give God the eraser.

"By day the Lord went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud to guide them...."

Con-FIT-dent Reflections

From E-StreetTeam's resident authority on health and fitness, Nakia

Hello DMV, I am the President and CEO of ConFITdent Woman Fitness, as your Personal Trainer and Fitness Guru, I will be posting weekly commentary on how you can stay "Fit n' Fine in 2009". I will also, highlight different Fitness Camps and Events within the area where you can get involved. If you or someone you know is a personal trainer or if you are looking for a personal trainer and/or fitness outlet, please do not hesitate to contact me.

FITNESS TIP FOR THE WEEK: Sodium and your Diet - Who doesn't like the taste of salt? As a way of lowering your blood pressure, keeping salt in your meal plan in check is another important way to support your overall health. Read labels, watch out for prepared foods that contain large amounts of salt like soups, snacks, and even some sodas. If you are craving salt, try enhancing your food flavor with fresh squeezed lemon or lime juice or some NO sodium or low sodium seasoning.

EXERCISE FOR THE WEEK: LEG SQUATS (MUSCLE FOCUS: GLUTES, HAMSTRINGS, QUADS, AND CALVES) Working your largest muscle groups help you begin the body composition transformation that reduces fat % and builds toned muscles. Using an Exercise ball, lean against it back and head straight looking forward. Feet should be shoulder width apart and with a smooth and steady sitting motion, bend at the hips and move your body downward till your legs are bent at a 90 degree angle. Pause for one second keeping the muscles in your lower body contracted and then move slowly back up into the standing upright position. Repeat this movement at least 12-15 times. Make sure you keep the fitness ball resting in your lower back area for support and stay very upright with your back and looking straight forward and not down at your feet.
