LA LowDown Vol. CLXXXVIII: Love is a
Verb!
Cocktail Commentary
You
keep me sane. You make me not want to act the same. You
make me want to change. You make me rack my brain about how I can
get this Steve Harvey change. You act like a lady, if it doesn’t
work with me being your man it would be a Low Down Dirty Shame.
You make me want to live forever, Fame. Not for the fame and
fortune, but lately I don’t know if you can tell, but I’ve had some
misfortunes. My bread basket is empty and the yeast isn’t rising,
so I’ve been trying to increase my portions. And I hear you when
you tell me that Jesus is the bread of life and He will supply me
despite my financial distortion. I believe that but I’ll be
honest, it’s ego and pride. I am supposed to be the man, the
eagle, and glide. Soar over the evil and lies and tackle this
mountain side. However, I went through a period of feeling feeble
and denied and you had to watch this strong man cry. You could
have left looking for another brother with a better dowry. Or
maybe a Bad Boy, Mike Lowery. But your encouraging words and
stern truths showered me. You let me know that you couldn’t power
us with out me making an effort to power me. You never have been
emasculating, but pals with me. You put things in perspective,
sometimes your wisdom is equivalent to what owls would see.
You're my wheel of fortune giving me enough to buy vowels with
see. For you to even be going through these trials with me speaks
towards your dedication and integrity. When it feels like this
world is dissecting me you remind me that God is directing and
protecting me. Exposing my flaws so He can keep perfecting
me. But its you who expects the best of me. And I know that
I've had this mess in me. So for you to be patient during the
clean up and me getting my dream up is more than any material
stuff. Baby these times are rough. And I'm trying to maintain.
Just know that when it seems that I'm acting strange, crazy and
deranged. Please don't change. You keep me sane...This is
Cocktails mixing those intoxicating words from my home cubicle of
figuring it out. You are not alone.

consultant on the music-less film “The Birds,” creating the
creature’s noises.) Acclaimed organist Stephan Tharp – a
composer and champion of new organ music – opens the program
with adaptations of those films’ scores. Then UCLA’s own organist
Christoph Bull – creator of the eclectic Organica concert series
– provides a live improvised score to the early Hitchcock silent
film, “The Lodger.” Admission $22 - $36. For more

explored L.A.'s origins, its underbelly, and (yes) its blondes

"Double Indemnity," "Chinatown," and
"L.A. Confidential." Yet this preoccupation with a
mythic past has obscured something important -- the true history
of noir Los Angeles. Admission $62. For more information,
